What it covers

Ten years, in stages.

  1. Years 1 and 2

    The defects period

Cover for defects in design, plan, specification, workmanship or materials that were not known when the Certificate of Practical Completion issued.

  2. Years 3 to 10

    Major defects

Cover for major defects to structure and weathertightness for the balance of the ten years.

  3. Later owners

    Passes with the home

The warranties set out in the Building Act pass to later owners, so the cover stays with the home after it is sold.

  4. Two years

    Developer repair promise

For two years after practical completion, tell us if something is not right and we arrange the repair. The promise is backed by the Stamford warranty.

Warranty terms are summarised here. The policy does not cover household appliances, fences, gardens and landscaping, main supply services or damage from a lack of normal maintenance. The full Stamford policy documents set out the cover, the exclusions and the claim process.
